Welcome to the first in my series of “Inspirational People” interviews! Over the coming weeks I will be sharing insights and stories from those who are inspiring others, making a positive difference and who are changing the world. I’m thrilled to start off this new series with an interview from Gabriel DiFelice.

Gabriel is a published author, entrepreneur, life and motivational coach based in Colorado USA. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years and after he was discharged from active service he attended the University of the Arts to study communications.

Following the loss of his beloved cat and his mother, Gabriel was in a near fatal accident and this left him close to broke. Against the odds Gabriel fought back by writing and publishing a book and investing in the stock market. He took a job at the VCA Animal Hospital but after 13 months he resigned and started his own business Pet-Unity.

Gabriel has taken part in numerous marathons and has won medals for his efforts, and he posts motivational and inspiring quotes daily on his Facebook account. It is these posts that I picked up which led me to connecting with Gabriel on Facebook, they are infectious and help me to do better and reach for my own dreams and goals every day.  Gabriel is living proof that through working hard and being determined, you can follow your dreams and reach your goals. He now aims to help others do just that as a life coach and motivator.

Over to you Gabriel!

Could you please tell us what inspired you to start your business?

My business was inspired by working with animals, which I started to do in 2003 for the Camden County, N.J. humane society. Immediately after resigning from the VCA animal hospital I started my company, what inspired me was knowing I could make more money, work independently with animals and be more of an entrepreneur. The idea came about from meeting another person that owns a similar business and from further research. I knew if other people could be successful doing it, so could I.

What things do you think makes someone a successful entrepreneur?

I would rather speak about what is most important to make you a successful entrepreneur. Dedication (not giving in even when the odds are against you or nobody believes in you), creativity (thinking about what others are doing and what they are not doing while coming out with interesting new ideas, concepts and strategies), education (learning the market, learning about your craft, learning about people and learning about other areas that may help you in your business; such as marketing, advertising, law etc).

Your messages on social media are very inspiring, why do you post these?

I am not posting motivational messages on my social media to keep myself accountable. I am posting them to help others because I want to give back and believe I have a talent for inspiring others.

It is said that failure is often a stepping stone to success. Could you tell us a bit about any failures you’ve had?

Some of my failures have been the failure to make it in film (this led me to my true calling), my failed relationship (this taught me to love myself and value myself first), and failing to make a decent income (this taught me to be creative, look at other opportunities and budget money).

Could you describe a typical day in your life?

I don’t have such a thing as a typical day, but I do lime to work as much as possible towards my goals and I have many 12-hour work days.  I tend to get up at 5am, go to the gym and stop by the store to get anything I need for the day. After that I usually have appointments with my clients and I have lunch at home with my dog. Then I might get some business-related things done from my computer, see some more clients and come home somewhere between 9.00pm to 10.00pm. I then sometimes watch a little TV before eating dinner and going to bed.

What would you say is the best way to achieve your goals and long-term success?

The best way to achieve your goals and maintain long-term success is through constantly tapping into your mind, body and soul. This is my principle whereby you take care of your mind, your health and the way you feel about yourself and others. Do everything that you can think of to stay positive, feel good and work hard. Additionally, be consistent and relentless! Go at your goals or dreams every single day and don’t slack off.

Do you have any valuable lessons to share that you’ve picked up about being an entrepreneur?

History teaches us that to be a successful entrepreneur you can’t quit, you can’t be negative, you can’t stop working hard and you need to continue to think of ways to contribute to society because if you are not offering anything of value you will not be successful.

If you could talk to any one person from history, who would it be and why?

If I could talk to someone from history I would talk to John F Kennedy because I believe he was a great President and set the USA in the direction it needed to go. He was also a charismatic and intelligent individual that put his values above everything else. However, there are many inspirational people out there and I learn from as many as I possibly can. I can’t possibly name one as my greatest inspiration, but some greats are Tony Robbins, Les Brown, Jim Rohn, Gordon Ramsay, and Nelson Mandela.

Do you think there are any differences between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?

The major difference between entrepreneurs and those that work for someone else is that entrepreneurs invite the challenge and risk while those that work for someone else are more concerned with job security and a steady normal pay check. Entrepreneurs are focused on flying as high as they possibly can and don’t want to be tied down by the restraints and limitations of working for someone else.

Finally, is there anything else that you would like to share?

The most important thing I can share with your readers is to search for passion and when you find it learn everything you can about the goals you are pursuing. Also find ways to give back as much as you take, don’t ever give up on something important to you, don’t let people tell you that your ambitions are silly, stay focused on your goals, and always believe in yourself.
